We understand that very often, legal jargon can be confusing. People understand many law concepts, but the phrases and words used don’t readily make sense. We want to provide some definitions of terms and concepts in an ongoing effort to provide knowledge for people seeking legal advice.
Litigation process – Litigation process basically refers to bringing a lawsuit upon a person or entity. We realize that’s a big way of saying a simple thing, but again this is very common with legal terms.
Compensation claim – When a person is injured on the job, they file a workers compensation claim to receive wage replacement and/or medical reimbursement for said injury. In exchange for the compensation, they are willing to drop the claim. We see many of these claims at 1LAW and wish to resolve them in the most efficient manner as possible.
Extenuating circumstances – When outside or surrounding factors reduce punishment for a crime or issue because they make it less severe. A good example is when someone is in college and they have issues in a class, but were ill during the semester. Being sick was an extenuating circumstance. While not technically a legal issue, this is a good example to understand the term.
We will continue providing legal term education in future articles, and hope you will call us if you have any further questions.
