UFC 178 was worth every penny spent at the gate and on PPV this past Saturday at the MGM Grand Gardens Arena in Las Vegas. As a sponsor of UFC fighters, the 1LAW family loves an epic event.
Like was widely predicted, the main event was the least interesting of the top fights on the card due to Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson’s dominance as usual. He took care of Chris Cariaso via second round submission to cement his title as the most defended fighting champion in the UFC. Nobody in the Flyweight division can touch him.
And now to the fireworks. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is still riding high and fighting his way towards a title shot with his unanimous decision over former Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez. Eddie came out tough, but Cowboy quickly settled in and took care of business.
The Conor McGregor hype machine is real! He backed up his words with a first round KO of Dustin Poirier. The Irish fans in attendance got the show they desired, and for Conor, the sky’s the limit.
Yoel Romero defeated Tim Kennedy in the most controversial fight of the night, when he took extra time between rounds to recover, and then dropped Kennedy. People are not happy, especially the Kennedy camp, but Romero showed that he’s one dude not to mess with.
Cat Zingano looked good in her third round TKO of Amanda Nunes. She got off to a slow start, but showed why she’s next in line for Ronda Rhousey.
If that wasn’t enough, in the prelims, former Bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz showed why time off for injuries has not slowed him down, but has only made him better. He knocked out Takeya Mizugaki in the first round, looking like a man on a mission. Mizugaki never had a chance, and Cruz is back where he belongs, at the top of the Bantamweight division.
